20 year wedding vow renewal at Sure Thing Chapel, Capalaba

After 20 years of marriage, Romana and Steve decided to celebrate with a vow renewal with their family and friends. They decided to hold their celebrations at the Sure Thing Chapel at Capalaba, with it’s whimsical styling,  and capacity for 40 guests in air conditioned comfort.

The guests all arrived, dressed in black and white, and were greeted with hugs and champagne. The venue was styled with colourful blooms and décor. Steve wore a snazzy shiny silver suit and Romana wore a sparkly silver beaded dress. She was glammed up by Jo from Twidale.

Steve and Romana entered the ceremony space, preceded by their children Jalen and Aysia, their proudest accomplishments. The song for their entry was sung by Jo and Layla, their original wedding song, Angel Eyes by Paulini. Jo was a bridesmaid at the wedding of Romana and Steve twenty years ago. Their other bridesmaid, Sonya, also travelled from Western Australia for the renewal party.

Celebrant, Cheryl, told the story of the couple’s meeting, their subsequent romance, and the proposal at Wellington Point. Their wedding was a surprise for guests at their engagement party, with the bridal party all wearing white. The couple welcomed son Jalen, and daughter Aysia, and have conquered renovations, injuries, and business ventures in their twenty years together.

Staying together takes dedication from both partners. It is knowing when to speak and when to remain silent. It is chipping in to complete a project together, with Romana sparking the concept and Steve carrying out the grunt work. The family unit has remained strong not matter what life threw at them, with all contributing to their achievements. The good times have been amplified by sharing the celebrations. 

Steve and Romana wrote their own vows to each other, and despite reading them over several times beforehand, there was still an overload of emotion as they poured out their hearts to each other.

They sealed their vows with a kiss, then signed a commemorative renewal certificate and placed an initialled heart on the wall at the chapel.

With a multi-song mashup, the guests all joined Romana and Steve for photos against the shimmer wall backdrop. The couple then cut their cake, which was delicious, and surprised their guests with a pre-choreographed dance.

The couple mingled with their guests for a time, before MC Ketrina led the evening’s entertainment with games and music bingo.

Vow Renewal at Sandstone Point Hotel

 As their wedding day approached in May 2020, Carlos and Tiffany were dismayed to learn that Australian borders were closed, and international visitors were unable to attend their wedding. Soon wedding numbers were capped at 5 people, and Queensland closed the state borders.

Nevertheless, Tiffany and Carlos were married in a legal, intimate, and emotional ceremony on their chosen wedding day, with just one witness each present, and myself officiating. The day was almost perfect, however, they were just devastated that their nearest and dearest could not atttend in person.

I followed their story, as the couple flourished and welcomed a baby daughter the following year.

The couple's original wedding vendors honoured their bookings, and Tiffany and Carlos set about planning a celebration day with guests from all around the world - four years after their initial wedding day. Function coordinator Kate ensured the ceremony space was set out beautifully, with orchids adorning the white chairs.

Yesterday, the skies cleared for a most beautiful Autumn day at Sandstone Point. Tiffany arrived at the ceremony with her parents who had travelled from France to be with her. She was absolutely stunning in a white, figure hugging gown, with a gorgeous satin train and a long white veil. Her bouquet was of white orchids. She was also accompanied by her best friend, Julie, dressed in navy, who had been her witness on the original wedding day. The couple's daughter was flower girl, carrying a basket of petals.

Carlos was handsome in a cream coloured suit with a white open shirt. He was attended by his sister, Mariana, also in cream, who was his witness on their wedding day back in 2020.

Guests were delighted to see this gorgeous couple renew their vows to each other, Tiffany stating how much she loved watching Carlos in his new role as a father, and Carlos impressing us all with his sweet and witty rhyming vows.

Guests brought forward ribbons to wish the couple well for their future: health, wisdom, peace, trust, and fertility.

The couple walked back down the aisle to Mas Que Nada - which I may or may not have played 5 times on repeat on my drive home.

Photographer, Brooke, from Our Wild Hearts Photography, captured some lovely photos of the couple, which she shared within 24 hours of the event! These will be even more treasured as with the restriction on guests on their original wedding day, they were not able to have professional photos taken.

Congratulations to this most special couple - I loved marrying them once, and even more so - twice!

 20 year anniversary Vow Renewal at Curtis Falls, Mount Tamborine

Twenty years ago, when Erica and Jason were married, they had the wedding that everyone expected of them. Now, two children and a mortgage later, they held the celebration that suited them.

Erica and Jason chose a remote rainforest location at Mount Tamborine where they could celebrate this milestone surrounded by a few special people in their lives.

Organising the celebrations from their home near Sydney, NSW, Erica used Google to find their ceremony location – a waterfall in the rainforest of Mount Tamborine. When Googling for a celebrant, Erica was looking for someone wasn’t an Insta Influencer, so I was delighted that she found me and we quickly were on the same page for the low key and genuine vibe of the day. After working with photographer Romana at Curtis Falls several times, I recommended her services to Erica. Erica also sourced some beautiful bouquets featuring proteas, booked accommodation on the Gold Coast, and hired a limo to drive the group to Mount Tamborine.

The girls all dressed up for the day, wearing pretty dresses and flower crowns. Footwear had to be a little more practical, with a 10 minute hike down a bush track needed to reach the ceremony location. Instead of bringing my PA system, I brought along a small Bluetooth speaker to play the chosen ceremony music, and we lugged a fold up table for the signing of the special Renewal certificate.

The ceremony I created for Jason and Erica was simple, heartfelt, and light. As well as the story of the couple and their achievements in their marriage, we also included some of their favourite memories of their original wedding day. The couple made some beautiful vows to each other and recommitted to their marriage.

After the signing of the Renewal certificate, there was plenty of afternoon light in the rainforest to capture some family portraits before the limo arrived to transport the group to dinner back on the Gold Coast.

If you have a memorable milestone anniversary coming up, why not make a memorable event of it. There are no rules – you can be on a beach, in a rainforest, or in your own backyard.

Renewal of Vows Ceremony at Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre

Hana and Nobuo enjoyed a legal wedding ceremony in Tokyo a couple of years ago but were saddened that family in Australia couldn’t attend due to the border restrictions which were in place at the time.

They vowed to do their wedding all over again when they were able to travel back to Australia.

Without needing to take care of any legal requirements, the pressure was off, and there was no need for any forms to be completed or documents to be sighted. We created the ceremony by corresponding back and forth via email and I also created a renewal of vows certificate for the day.

Nobuo and Hana chose the beautiful Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre on the edge of the D’Aguilar National Park for their ceremony. There are several ceremony areas to choose from, and Hana and Nobuo chose the deck which overlooks the native bushland. They asked the team from Beautiful Weddings to set up an arbour and bamboo chairs for their guests.

Hana looked so dainty in a white strapless dress with a jewelled choker, and she carried a bouquet of white roses. Nobuo kept his trademark messy hairdo but looked ultra smart in a navy suit with a waistcoat and tie.

Although the couple maintained their serious faces for the ceremony, they couldn’t contain their delighted grins as they walked out of the ceremony to, “I wanna grow old with you” by Westlife which featured in the movie, “Up”.

It was beautiful to see the grandparents who thought they had missed out on the wedding day be able to enjoy the renewal of vows in such a gorgeous location.

Renewal of Vows Ceremony

As a marriage celebrant, I spend much of my time immersed in happy events. But life isn't all good times. The natural ebb and flow of life sometimes requires a more bittersweet ceremony.

A and B would have been celebrating their 30 year wedding anniversary next week. However, B received a health diagnosis late last year which sent his family into a tailspin. Instead of surrendering to their grief, the family instead decided to fill B's last weeks making as many memories as possible.

A and B decided to renew their wedding vows at the 29.75 year mark instead, and invited their friends, siblings, and adult children to witness their vows to each other in a simple backyard ceremony.

After so many years of raising their children together, A and B had a lot to be thankful for. They thanked each other for their loyalty, commitment, and adoration, and promised to love each other until the very end.

It was so very poignant to tell the couple's story and spend time with them on that very special afternoon.

 

How to do a Sand Ceremony at your Wedding

Sand Ceremonies are a popular visual showing the combining of two people or two families.
At this renewal of vows at Wellington Point in Brisbane, the couple had arranged for a flask of sand for each member of the family. They decorated the vases themselves.

During the ceremony, each member of the family added their bottle of sand to the heart shaped vase, then added the stopper. The result was a beautiful memento of their celebration.
