5 unique elements at Sarah and Andrew’s Cleveland wedding

The brief for Sarah and Andrew’s wedding day was for a fun and unique celebration.

So how did they achieve those unique elements?

1 – Sarah has a strong personality. Her platinum blonde spiky hair, thick lashes, and all over tattoos ensure she stands out. For her wedding dress, she surprised guests with a hunter green wedding dress. As she alighted from the car on arrival at the ceremony venue, she held up a cathedral length black lace veil. “Is this too much?” she asked. I replied that it definitely was too much – and therefore suited Sarah perfectly.

2 – A couple often enjoys some “in” jokes – shared moments that make up the tapestry of their relationship. Sarah surprised Andrew by choosing Elton John’s ‘Crocodile Rock’ as her processional song.

3 – Instead of nominating a ring bearer, Sarah and Andrew hid their wedding rings under two of the guest chairs. When it was time to exchange the wedding rings and I asked Andrew if he had them, he patted each pocket in mock panic, before I requested the guests to look under their chairs. The lucky finders had the honour of presenting the rings to the couple. This was a unique and fun way to present the rings, and also included the guests.

4 – As an alternative to prior nomination of witnesses to sign their marriage certificates, guests who found pens underneath their seats had the honour of acting as witnesses. Andrew’s dad, in his 70’s, had a laugh when I asked him to confirm if he was over 18, sober, and willing to testify in a court of law as to the proceedings of the day if he ever should be called upon. Comically, Terence didn’t immediately find the pen cleverly taped to the underside of his chair, and for the first time during a wedding ceremony, I had to crawl on my hands and knees around the guest chairs to acquire the well attached pen.

5 – Instead of a traditional wedding cake, the couple arranged for wheels of cheese to be placed atop each other for the dessert.

There were so many other elements to the styling of the ceremony area, including table runners depicting black crows, Corpse bride statuettes, table centre pieces made from plastic eyeballs and skulls and topped with crows on branches, and pumpkin décor.

This was such a memorable and fun wedding, but despite all the quirky distractions, Andrew and Sarah only had eyes for each other.

Wedding at Cleveland Tavern

Annarelle and Craig first met at work. They had a similar sense of humour and laughed at the same things. Craig wanted to give Annarelle his phone number, and wrote it down on a piece of paper, carrying it around in his pocket for weeks before he worked up the courage to hand it to her and ask her out.

On their wedding day, the two could not stop looking at each other adoringly. The affection they have for each other is mesmerizing, with one of the guests mentioning to me after the wedding that she was just transfixed during the ceremony.

The couple chose Cleveland Tavern for their ceremony and reception, with the covered courtyard providing a convenient location, and a covered roof which was most welcome when the day dawned with a forecast for rain showers.

Being one of nine, the wedding day provided a great reason for all Craig’s siblings to come together from all over Australia and New Zealand. And with Ananrelle's four children of her own, the day became a celebration of family uniting.

The bridesmaids wore jade green dresses, Annarelle was lovely in a white princess style wedding dress, and Craig was super dapper in a grey suit with a tie.

Their wedding day was sweet and memorable, and will be talked about for years to come.

Morning Wedding at the Courthouse Restaurant, Cleveland

School teachers Sammi and Aaron chose to marry during the school holidays. They decided on a morning wedding at the Courthouse Restaurant at Cleveland. The couple envisioned a super chill and authentic ceremony, keeping it small and intimate with just their closest loved ones.

Breaking with tradition, Sammi and Aaron decided to walk down the aisle together, along with their three young children. They chose the song, “Palaces of Montezuma” by Grinderman for their entrance. Very cool!

Aaron and Sammi met up with photographer, Steve Doyle, for some classic black and white photos at the historic Courthouse before the ceremony. Against the timeless black and white floor tiles, Steve captured some elegant pictures.

The couple decided to create a Love Letters and Wine Box during their ceremony. They placed their printed wedding vows and a copy of their wedding menu in this special keepsake box.

What an absolutely stunning wedding! It was such a joy to be surrounded by such a lovely family.

Wedding at the Lighthouse Restaurant, Cleveland

 

With five teens/young adults between them, Emma and Craig's emphasis for their wedding day (and in fact their entire relationship) was family.

When they first met, Craig and Emma noticed that they shared common values and priorities, and were both committed to providing a healthy and happy lifestyle for their children. These ideals were continued on to their wedding plans, as they found colour coordinated outfits for their children, and asked them to stand by their side as they made their vows to each other.

Unfortunately, the wet weather on their wedding day resulted in the Plan B ceremony location, and luckily, the Lighthouse Restaurant at Cleveland has a wet weather space. Emma and Craig were able to hold their ceremony under the gazebo which adjoins the dining space, overlooking the bay at Cleveland.

As a further idea to include their children in the ceremony, Emma and Craig purchased a vase and vials of different coloured sand. In turn, each family member added a coloured sand to the vase, which will be a colourful momento of the wedding day.

Vintage Wedding at The Courthouse Restaurant, Cleveland

 The historic The Courthouse Restaurant overlooking the bay at Cleveland provided the perfect backdrop for this vintage styled wedding. The bride wore a retro slinky white silky dress, with white gloves. Her hair was styled in victory rolls and her lipstick was a scarlet red. The groom and groomsen wore suits and waistcoats.

Live music set an elegant tone for the post ceremony champagne on the lawn and then the band played after dinner as the dance floor opened.

The couple arrived in a vintage London cab.
