Married on North Stradbroke Island

Harmony and Dalton dreamt of a relaxed island wedding and contacted the team at Elope Brisbane to collate a team of wedding professionals for their day.

Harmony's vision was to create a boho vibe, with sand/tan colours, bare feet, and proteas. They invited only their immediate families, who were thrilled with the chance to have a couple of days away together on beautiful Straddie.
Steve from Kandid Kombi transported Harmony to the beachfront. She looked gorgeous in a simple knit dress with a baby's breath flower crown. Dalton was relaxed in a white shirt with navy shorts.
On Straddie, there's no need for formalities - or shoes!
Harmony's dad walked her down the path to the beach, and Harmony and Dalton asked their mums to be their witnesses, which was a poignant touch. Their 2 small boys presented the wedding rings.
The ceremony styling was by Mel from Miss Weddings, pics were snapped by Romana Saeheng Photography and Graphic Design, Dan Hodgson Freelance created a video story, celebrant Cheryl Landsberry - Marriage Celebrant made the legals all so simple, and Cakes by Simone baked a white chocolate and coconut mud cake.
What a chilled way to be married!
We love an excuse to get to Straddie for the day, so contact the team at Elope Brisbane to make your Straddie wedding happen.

Wedding at Summergrove Estate

Holly and Michael have been living in London for the last few years, so they wanted to return home and celebrate their wedding in style with all their Queensland family and friends. And their wedding day (well wedding weekend really) was a great opportunity for their UK friends to see and experience a little of the local countryside.

With spreadsheets and timelines all aligning, the wedding guests stayed in coastal Kingscliff and were coached in to the breathtaking wedding venue at Summergrove Estate at Carool in the Tweed Hinterland. After all the recent rains, the lawns were lush and green, and butterflies danced around the ceremony space.

Holly and her bridesmaids prepared for the big day at Zeta's Coffee - a hinterland cabin with an outlook over the hills. The six bridesmaids wore gold dresses of various styles from Shona Joy and Holly was absolutely stunning with Hollywood waves in her hair and wearing a fitted white gown.

Holly walked down the aisle to music by Dylan Pinkerton, accompanied by Michael's sister, Sarsha, singing Can't help falling in Love - the song to which Michael proposed (on Paradise Beach in Barbados #proposalgoals).

We corresponded back and forth until the ceremony was just right - still classy and special, but with a little humour and candour.

Photographs were captured by Wilde Visual (Jess was super quick to send Holly some sneak peak photos too - something to keep in mind when choosing your photographer) and videography was by Pineapple Images Wedding Photography + Film.

Holly and Michael joined their guests for cocktails at the barn and enjoyed celebrating at the reception and had the best night ever!

Guests got together for a recovery lunch at Kingscliff Hotel on the following day, rounding off an epic weekend.

Thanks for sharing your day with me.

Iranian Wedding Customs

Even though they had a modern Australian marriage ceremony, S wanted to incorporate some elements from her Iranian heritage in the wedding.

One wedding tradition from Iran is the inclusion of a Sofreh Aghd. This translates to ceremony spread. Delicacies representing a sweet love, health and good fortune are set on a low table in front of the couple. A mirror was placed on the table to reflect light into the couple's life. Sweets and spices are also arrayed on the table.
After the couple exchanged wedding rings, the bride and groom dip their pinky finger into a jar of honey and place it to their partner's lips to represent a sweet life.

Two loaves/cones of solid sugar are rubbed together over the couple's heads by their mothers, aunts, and sisters to bless them with a sweet life. I was wondering how this was going to work without the newlyweds having their hair caked with sugar, but discovered that a cloth known as a ghand is held over their heads.

Whatever your cultural background and circumstances, speak to your celebrant to include an element in your ceremony.

Wet weather wedding location

Concerned about the possibility of bad weather on your wedding day?

Look out for a venue which has a wet weather option.

The heritage rotunda at New Farm Park is both beautiful and functional, and has provided a protected location for many of Brisbane's celebrations.

Elopement at Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mount Coot-tha

J and L are shy people. They wanted a legal wedding without any fuss. The team at Elope Brisbane made their wedding happen, with photographer Romana Saeheng Photography and Graphic Design doubling as a witness for the couple.

No pics this time. Just happy memories.

Gothic Wedding

When is it OK to wear black to a wedding? When it is Halloween.

Nicola had just about given up on online dating, but John caught her eye with his profile picture. He was on stage with his bass guitar, in a mid-air jump. And her heart skipped a little beat.
Soon they started chatting, and once he realised that Nicola could hold a conversation using Slipknot song names, John asked Nicola to meet him for coffee. He arrived to pick up Nicola from her home, a plan Nicola started second guessing after panicking that he could be an axe murderer. But she opened the door to a cute guy in Vans and a band T shirt, and Speed Dealer sunnies.
But, despite not having high expectations from an online date, Nicola and John ending up talking and laughing for six solid hours. They hardly noticed the time slip by, and both felt their instant connection.
The pair were soon inseparable, feeling like they had known each other for their whole lives. Their life was a rollercoaster of late night gigs, coffee runs, inappropriate jokes, and making each other laugh so hard they had tears running down their legs.
John said that he felt like he had found his best friend. And Nicola knew there was no one else she would rather spend time with.
Nicola and John knew they wanted to be together forever, but they also knew that a traditional white wedding was just not them. Which is why they contacted the team at Elope Brisbane .
Stylist Mel from Miss Weddings created an arbour with black draping. Celebrant Cheryl Landsberry worked with the couple to design a quiet and intimate ceremony respectful of the cemetery surrounds and found a black dress with Morticia sleeves from Dangerfield. Photographer Romana Saeheng Photography and Graphic Design filtered the photos to give a sombre vibe. Roses were placed on surrounding gravesites as a mark of respect.
John's dad proudly escorted Nicola to the ceremony site to The Only Exception by Paramore. Nicola was striking in a black fitted dress with a black lace veil and a gold, Gothic crown which was actually made from cable ties! John was dashing with his hair combed down, wearing all black. Their two witnesses also dressed in top to toe black.
John promised, "I’ll always love you with all my heart -till death do us part."
Nicola's promise, "I will love you always and forever -I’m fatally yours" matched her tattoo.
This ceremony was one of the most heartfelt, sincere, and intimate ceremonies we have been involved with, and we will remember forever our time spent with John, Nicola, and their family.

Morning wedding at Cleveland

Aurelia and David are the most adorable young couple who just glow with happiness when they are together. They chose a morning wedding ceremony at Cleveland, and were blessed with a clear and calm day. The early ceremony time made the most of the day, when the sunshine was mild and the breeze was light.

Aurelia and her bridesmaids were beautified by Bella Brides, before being chauffeured to the ceremony by Kandid Kombi. The colourful blooms were by Little Miss Flower Shoppe.

Celebrant Cheryl Landsberry worked with the couple to compile their story. They decided on an intimate and quirky ceremony, with no cringe factor. David and Aurelia first met playing Dungeons and Dragons. When they first met, Aurélia noticed that David was the most optimistic person she had ever encountered. She genuinely didn’t realise that people like him even existed. David noticed that Aurélia was easy to get along with and had a great sense of humour. She was always quick with the punchy quips. And David noticed that he felt so open and comfortable whenever he was around Aurélia – he could just be himself without worry.

David and Aurelia delighted their friends by walking out of their ceremony to music from Portal. Photographer Sylvie from Papillon Studio captured some beautiful photos of the day, and as a bonus, could converse in fluent French with family members.

The newlyweds celebrated with friends and family at a brunch reception at Fiction Bar at Cleveland, followed by cake by Cakes by Simone.

Wedding at Raby Bay Foreshore

After all the nerves and build up before a wedding day, it's smiles like this that show the pure bliss of the moment. We love a (biodegradable) petal toss!

After an early morning hair and makeup appointment, Kyla was chauffered to her ceremony at Raby Bay Foreshore by Kandid Kombi. Her flowers were by Little Miss Flower Shoppe. Kyla walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of,"Say you won't go" sung by guitarist, Simon Meola.

Kyla and Josh requested a classy but relaxed ceremony, and gave Cheryl Landsberry - Marriage Celebrant a few dot points about their meeting.

"Kyla and Joshua first met against the odds, as they were separated by 5,000 kilometres. Kyla was studying at the University of Queensland, and Joshua was working away in the town of Onslow, Western Australia, in the Pilbara region. And they both swiped right.
Joshua and Kyla made a connection quickly, texting and chatting every day. But Kyla was quick to point out that she wasn’t interested in a long distance relationship, so friendship might be the best option.
Not one to back down or admit defeat, Joshua promptly threw himself off a scaffold to ensure a one way ticket home to Kyla, and never left her side again – so Kyla tells the story."

Kyla and Josh enjoyed a lunchtime reception at Fiction Bar & Restaurant at Raby Bay Harbour, which was followed by a cruise on the bay.

Thanks to the team at Elope Brisbane for another seamless event.

Does anyone object?

I had a phone call today from a bride whose upcoming wedding is in the planning stages. She asked if I as the celebrant would refrain from asking, "is there anyone here who objects to the wedding?"

Her fiance's mates are "characters" and the bride was nervous about the kind of responses that might be forthcoming.

She was very relieved that I replied that not only is it not a legal requirement to ask, "does anyone object?" but it's also something that I don't include in a ceremony.

Everyone has that one friend...

Do you agree?

Redlands Coast Wedding

Nicole and Trent decided on an elegant and romantic wedding, with their ceremony at Raby Bay Foreshore, and celebrations afterwards at Fiction Bar at Cleveland. Nicole chose blush and silver for the colour palette. They asked the team at Elope Brisbane to collate all their wedding professionals to ensure a stress free preparation to their dream wedding.

Stunning Nicole was pampered by hair and makeup artist, Suzie, at An Eye for Style Wedding Hair and Makeup at Cleveland. Her bouquet was from Little Miss Flower Shoppe at Wynnum. Nicole was transported to the ceremony location in a stylish, silver Rolls Royce from Our Weddings Cars. Trent and the kids took the fun option of arriving by Kombi.

The classic arbour and Americana chairs at the ceremony location by Raby Bay were styled by Mel from Miss Weddings. The simple ceremony was led by local celebrant, Cheryl Landsberry, who guided the family as they all added different colours of sand to a vase in a family sand ceremony. Photographer, Romana Saeheng, took the opportunity to capture not only gorgeous photos of the couple, but also their extended family while they were all dressed up.

Wedding at Palm Tree Lawn, Brisbane Botanic Gardens

With two youngsters and a third on the way, Anastasia and Steven decided on a short and sweet ceremony at Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mount Coot-tha. Following their ceremony at the Palm Tree Lawn, they held a picnic where the parents could relax and catch up with family and friends, and the kids could race around with their cousins.

Steven and Anastasia asked the team at Elope Brisbane to coordinate their day as they have such a busy life to navigate. Steve from Kandid Kombi transported the bride and her bridesmaid from her hair and makeup appointment straight to the gardens. Stylist Mel from Miss Weddings installed a white arbour with burgundy flowers and white Americana chairs in the ceremony space at the Palm Tree Lawn. Celebrant Cheryl Landsberry created a simple, relaxed, and funny ceremony so the youngsters wouldn't have to sit still for too long. Photographer Romana Saeheng took the opportunity to capture some gorgeous family photos while everyone was dressed up and in the same place at the same time. The cake was crafted by Cakes by Simone.

Anastasia sent a cheeky email to Cheryl, "Thank you so much for a wonderful day yesterday. It went smoothly and quickly, just as we had hoped! (haha)."

Wedding at Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mount Coot-tha

Crystal and Alvin first met as students.

When they first met, Alvin noticed that Crystal was reserved and intellectual. He thought she would make a valuable study partner.

Crystal noticed Alvin’s cheeky sense of humour. She knew he would be lots of fun to be around.

As they spent time together working on assessments, they admired so many qualities in each other, and after graduation, looked for work opportunities in the same city so they could spend more time together.

Alvin and Crystal decided on a low-key intimate wedding ceremony at the Botanic Gardens at Mount Coot-tha, with just their closest family and friends. Alvin promised to wait to binge watch their favourite series together, and Crystal promised to take them on food adventures together.

Celebrant: Cheryl Landsberry

Photographer: Romana Saeheng

Wedding at Newstead Park

Sam and Mic first met around 8 years ago at the Victory Hotel. Sam was out with friends, and Mic was kicking on after the Caxton Street Seafood and Wine Festival. Both had consumed a couple of beverages.

Mic noticed Sam from across the room with her long brunette hair and sparkly eyes. He decided to start a conversation with her. Sam thought Mic was a bit cute, but his hair was too perfect for him to possibly be straight.

Soon, the conversation was flowing easily, with the two bantering like old friends. They had a boogie on the dance floor and neither wanted the evening to end.

Mic and Sam were soon spending every spare moment together, and they became a couple.

Sam and Mic chose a relaxed and intimate wedding ceremony at Newstead Park, Brisbane.
Sam showed off her toned physique in a fitted dress with a gorgeous train. Mic was dapper in an olive green jacket.
Surrounded by their closest family and friends, Mic promised to be the manager at Daddy Day Care while Sam worked out, and Sam explained that she and Mic complemented each other - he being the gift wrapper, and she the writer on cards.

The couple were guided and encouraged with their vow writing by celebrant Cheryl Landsberry.
Photographer Romana Saeheng captured some snaps which will be treasured for years to come.
Mel from Miss Weddings supplied an arbour and Americana chairs, and the fresh flowers were by Little Miss Flower Shop.
Afterwards, celebrations were held at the Breakfast Creek Hotel.

"Cheryl was just amazing. She was extremely helpful with every step leading up to our big day. She has a beautiful and calm nature which made us both feel at ease and made our day perfect and stress free. Highly recommend Cheryl to anyone on the hunt for a great celebrant." Sam and Mic Nov 2022
