Sharon and Mark’s Country Style Wedding

The magic of a backyard wedding is that the fruits of all your labour and investment stay with you, adding charm to your home forever.

Sharon and Mark, both tying the knot for the second time, chose a laid-back, fun-filled country-style celebration. Mark, a real-life cowboy and all-round handy guy, transformed their suburban backyard into a rustic barnyard, while Sharon's crafty talents brought in all the charming details.

Mark got to work by dismantling the old chicken coop, levelling the yard, building a retaining wall, and covering the fences and garage with stable-door style palings. He constructed a wooden arbour, scattered hay bales for seating, and hung fairy lights on the decking trusses.

Sharon, inspired by countless YouTube DIY videos, created beautiful floral arrangements from dried flowers and pampas grass. She adorned the arbour and the ceremony area, placing flowers on the arbour, in milk pails and glass jars on every flat surface.

The result was a western wonderland.

As their children, grandchildren, and friends gathered on the deck, Mark and his groomsmen strutted down the aisle to "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" by Big & Rich. The crowd erupted in cheers, claps, and whistles, setting the stage for a lively and joyous wedding ceremony.

Following this, I played "I Knew I Loved You" by Savage Garden as the bridesmaids–Sharon's daughters, nieces, and granddaughters–walked out in sage green dresses. Sharon, radiant in a white boho gown and carrying a bouquet of her own creation, was escorted down the aisle by her son, Harry.

When I asked the guests for their heartfelt wishes for the couple's union, they responded with a hearty "Yeehaw!" signaling a fun-filled, rowdy reception ahead. The ceremony, crafted with Mark and Sharon's input, was lighthearted and sweet, sprinkled with playful cowboy references.

Mark’s vows even included the words, “from the moment we pulled our first calf together..”

The newlyweds rode off into the sunset together to "Beautiful as You" by Thomas Rhett, ready to embrace their happily-ever-after.

Quirky Micro Wedding in a Brisbane Backyard

 Dee Dee and Sam mixed and matched a little tradition and a little quirkiness for their own unique wedding party. They started with an engagement party in the backyard of their new home, inviting friends and family from near and far.

On the following Sunday morning, they celebrated their legal marriage ceremony with an intimate and legal wedding at their home.

Sam wore a three piece blue suit, with a fresh hair cut, shiny shoes, and a blue tie. He told Dee Dee that she challenged him and encouraged him, and his life had been one big adventure since they met.

Dee Dee wore a fabulous embossed mini dress by Elliatt, with Doc Marten boots, topped with a bridal white veil. Her luminous smile sparkled more than her jewelled earrings, as she surprised Sam with her apt vows.

Pop Up Wedding at a Thornlands backyard

Sharlene and Adam decided to marry in the backyard of their parent’s home and entrusted the team at Pop Up Weddings Bayside to coordinate the wedding day of their dreams. Being December, the couple decided to hold their ceremony later on a Saturday afternoon to avoid the heat of the day.

Miss Weddings set up a circular arbour with foliage and flowers of orange, pink, and cream, which matched with the flowers in Sharlene’s bouquet and Adam’s bouttoniere, and the flowers atop the wedding cake. Maid of Honour, Robyn, wore a coral dress, which tied the colour palette together.

Sharlene wore a beautiful A Line lace off the shoulder dress with a mocha underlay. She wore a veil attached to her curled hair, with a pretty side hair clip, and coordinated her jewellery with a bracelet, drop necklace and earrings. Groom Adam wore a cream coloured suit, with a white shirt, black bow tie and black pocket square.

As the shade slipped onto the lawn area, guests took their seats, glad of the breeze from the bay. Adam walked down the aisle with his best man Nathan and his parents, to an instrumental version of Thinking out Loud. Then the guests held their breath as beautiful bride, Sharlene walked down the aisle, preceded by her Maid of Honour, and accompanied by both her mother and father, to an instrumental version of "Can you Feel the Love Tonight" from the Lion King.

After a short and sweet ceremony officiated by Cheryl Landsberry, the couple signed their marriage certificates and walked back down the aisle , hand in hand, to “Come and Get your Love” by Redbone, as their guests blew celebratory bubbles.

After some photos around the tended gardens with photographer Romana Saeheng, the wedding party and their guests enjoyed a catered outdoor reception on the back deck under the starry skies.

Sharlene and Adam are still on a high with such glowing memories of their wedding day. They wrote,” Thank you for all your efforts to make it a great wedding. Our family and friends told us lots of positive words about you and the ceremony.”

Brisbane backyard wedding

Jessica and Jean-Pierre's relationship started as a holiday romance - that didn't end with the holiday. Both from different continents, Jessica and Jean-Pierre met at a full moon party in Thailand. No sooner than they arrived home from their holiday, they were making plans to reunite.

The couple set up home in Brisbane, and, after seventeen years together, decided to host a relaxed and intimate backyard wedding for family from interstate and overseas. Instead of spending their savings on a wedding venue, the couple invested their funds (and time) into transforming their backyard into a pretty and functional lawn. Mel from Miss Weddings set up an arbour with chairs in the couple's backyard transform it into a wedding lawn.

In a very unique touch, the couple attached the string tied around their wrists at the full moon party to a handfasting ribbon for their ceremony.
