How to do a Sand Ceremony at your Wedding

Sand Ceremonies are a popular visual showing the combining of two people or two families.
At this renewal of vows at Wellington Point in Brisbane, the couple had arranged for a flask of sand for each member of the family. They decorated the vases themselves.

During the ceremony, each member of the family added their bottle of sand to the heart shaped vase, then added the stopper. The result was a beautiful memento of their celebration.

Surprise Wedding Brisbane

Some couples want to avoid the fuss and expense of a traditional wedding, and decide instead to surprise their guests and hold the wedding ceremony during their engagement party. After welcoming guests to their engagement party, today's couple slipped away to change into bridal attire. Their MC announced the wedding to the gasps and cheers of their guests. The groom's sister and the bride's uncle were thrilled to be asked to witness the ceremony. To comply with Australian Law, the couple had to complete the Notice of Intended Marriage at least a month before the ceremony, however, they didn't have to tell anybody about their plans to be married as soon as possible.

The important thing to remember about a surprise wedding is that while it can be a surprise for the guests, it can't be a surprise for the bride or groom.

Game of Thrones Wedding Brisbane

Game of Thrones Wedding Celebrant

Whether you are a fan of the Game of Thrones books or the HBO TV Series, the weddings have inspired Game of Thrones themed weddings in Australia (despite the not always Happily Every Afters of the characters involved).

If you're looking for a marriage celebrant in Brisbane for your Game of Thrones wedding, you'll need someone who is a fan of both the books, with their intricate characters and plot twists, and also the TV series, (albeit sometimes through covered eyes when there's just too much tomato sauce being thrown around). Contact Cheryl at ido@cherylwedding.com

The 3 main religions of Westeros are demonstrated in the weddings  - the Old Gods, the new Gods, and the Lord of Light.

Robb Stark and Talisa (Jeyne in the books)

The devotion between Robb and Talisa was tangible as their hands were united by the Septon with the words, "In the sight of the seven, I hereby seal these two souls, binding them as one for eternity. Look upon one another and say the words:"
The wedding vows of Robb Stark and Talisa: "Father, Smith, Warrior, Mother, Maiden, Crone, Stranger. I am hers & she is mine. From this day, until the end of my days."

Robb smiled adoringly at Talisa when Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey repeated those same vows at the Red Wedding.

Joffrey Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell

Septon:  “Let it be known that Margaery, from House Tyrell, and Joffrey of the houses Lannister and Baratheon are one heart, one flesh, and one soul. Cursed be he who would seek to tear them asunder”

Sansa Stark and Tyrion Lannister

Septon: "You may now cloak the bride and bring her under your protection."
We stand here in the sights of Gods and men to witness the union of man and wife - one flesh, one heart, one soul - now and forever."

Sansa Stark and Ramsay Bolton

Roose Bolton: "Who comes before the Old Gods this night?"
Theon Greyjoy: "Sansa of the House Stark comes here to be wed. A woman grown true born and noble. She comes to beg the blessings of the Gods. Who comes to claim her?"
Ramsay Bolton: "Ramsay of House Bolton - heir to the Dreadfort and Winterfell. Who gives her?"
Theon Greyjoy: "Theon, from House Greyjoy, who was her father's ward.
Roose Bolton: "Lady Sansa, will you take this man?"
Sansa Stark: "I take this man."

Auslan Weddings Brisbane

Auslan weddings

I just loved watching the Auslan interpreters on TV during the emergency broadcasts, they were so animated! So I spent some time in 2016 acquiring my Certificate II in Auslan from Brisbane TAFE.

Whilst I'm far from fluent in Auslan, I look forward to being able to include some signing in future ceremonies to include both hearing and Deaf wedding guests. We learnt so much about communicating with the Deaf community, I hope they will be patient with me as I practice.

In the photo above, I'm practicing the sign for "witness". A couple need two witnesses for their legal marriage ceremony in Australia.

If you are planning your Brisbane wedding and would like the benefit of a celebrant who will be enthusiastic to include your Deaf guests, please contact Cheryl at www.cherylwedding.com.

If you are looking for a qualified Auslan interpreter for a wedding ceremony, contact Auslan Alliancehttp://www.auslanalliance.com.au/?lightbox=dataItem-ikwmnieg which is a new service in Australia, or Deaf Services Qld http://www.deafservicesqld.org.au/Services/Interpreting/Face-to-Face-Interpreting.
