Mother of the Bride outfits

Formal wear shops seem to be sparse these days. I took a trip into Queen Street mall today looking for wedding wear, and looked at Blooms in Wintergarden, Sassiz & Shareen at Broadway on the Mall, and Bora in Brisbane Arcade. Myers and David Jones also had some suitable outfits. There's a place called "Mother of the Bride & Groom" at Underwood, and "A Certain Style" is at Cleveland.

Jacaranda

Jacarandas are blooming in Brisbane in October and November. Why not team up mauve combinations for the bridesmaids' dresses & groomsmen's ties for gorgeous photos against the Jacaranda blossoms?

Signing the Certificates

There are 3 certificates that require signing after the marriage vows have been exchanged. One copy is kept by the couple, one copy is sent to Births Deaths & Marriages in the state where the wedding was held, and one copy is kept by the celebrant. Brides must sign the certificate in their current name. Two witnesses, any persons of the age of 18, sign after the couple to witness their signature to the agreement. Witnesses are customarily the best man and the matron of honour, but can be parents of the couple, or friends or family who the couple would like to honour. Jarrod and Alicia's bridal party, decked out in navy, watch over the proceedings in this photograph, kindly sent to me by Doug, who managed to capture some lovely shots of the day.

Time Capsules

David's parents created a time capsule during his naming ceremony today. I suppose you're thinking of something metallic which is buried underground for 50 years, requiring a metal detector to find. A time capsule can be any kind of container which is stored safely for future opening. Guests wrote their blessings and best wishes for David on parchment paper. Also included in the box was a toy, his naming day cards, a photo, and the silk flower petals we scattered on his forehead during the ceremony. His parents plan to give him the keepsakes upon his coming of age.

A marquee in the Garden

Alicia's dad was happy to host her wedding at his Carbrook property. Family of the bride and groom made decorations, an arch, bouquets & centre pieces.

The bridal party wore white and navy, and carried hot pink bouquets. Hot pink lanterns decorated the gardens. The groom used navy sand, the bride white, and their daughter hot pink, to create a momento of their day.

Wedding Decorations

I dropped into the Wedding Decoration Warehouse on Redland Bay Road, Capalaba today to pick up some flower petals for Sunday's baby naming. They have lovely centrepieces for wedding tables, cake toppers, and kits for sand ceremonies.

Themed Weddings

Themed weddings are a lot of fun for everyone involved. This photo was from a medieval themed wedding. I'm looking forward to officiating at a Game of Thrones wedding now that I've finished reading the books. The main feature of the ceremony would be the exchanging of cloaks. The bride's father removes her maiden's cloak, in the colours of his family, and her new husband fastens the bride's cloak, in the colours of his family.

Wording for the vows and ceremonies can be found by doing a little research. In the TV series, Robb and Talisa (ie Jeyne) together state, "Father, Smith, Warrior, Mother, Maiden, Crone, Stranger. I am hers & she is mine. From this day, until the end of my days".

In Sword of Stones, Sansa said, “With this kiss I pledge my love, and take you for my lord and husband.”
Red Weddings may be somewhat less popular though...

Rehearsals

While not compulsory, rehearsals are helpful when creating a well-organised ceremony. There are fewer nightmares during the week preceding the wedding when the bridal party can picture where they will stand and what will be happening on the big day. If possible, the rehearsal at the venue should be at the same time of day as the actual wedding, so shade, glare, and shadows can be factored in to the positioning. Rehearsals are usually a relaxed run through of events - a time when any problems can be solved and queries can be answered.
